Mr. David Niemeyer has been the director of instrumental music at Warren High School since the Fall of 2003 where he teaches/directs all aspects of the instrumental music program. Mr. Niemeyer holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in music. From a very young age he was drumming along to records and performing for any willing listener. In fifth grade he started his formal training as a percussionist in the school band. In every grade level there after he was enrolled in every band class, composed music, a section leader and performed in honor ensembles. Destiny brought Mr. Niemeyer to music. His passion for music naturally led him to share it through teaching.
As a teacher, Mr. Niemeyer was selected teacher of the month in February 2004 and again January 2005. In 2007, the Warren High School PTSA, the city of Downey and California Legislature Assembly presented him with a certificate of appreciation for honorary service. In April of 2018, Mr. Niemeyer was awarded the Teacher of the Year by the Downey Kiwanis and the City of Downey’s Mayor’s DNA award. In September of 2018 Mr. Niemeyer was recognized by the LA County of Education as Downey Unified's teacher of the year.
As a professional out of the classroom, Mr. Niemeyer is active within the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). There he serves as a professional adjudicator and member and has also served as a manager for the honor band. In 2016 and again in 2017, Mr. Niemeyer was privileged to guest conduct the Long Beach Middle School honor band and the Beverly Hills Middle School honor band.

Mercy is a resident of the city of Donwey is a former band parent. As a former parent she understands the level of activity and ins and outs of the organization. Mercy is bilingual in English and Spanish and is happy and ready to help serve our community of families. Mercy joined the staff in the Fall of 2014.

Arturo is a resident of Downey and a graduate of Warren HS where he was in band the band all four years, serving as baritone section leader his senior year. Arturo's principal instrument is Euphonium, but has expertise on all brass instruments. Arturo performed one season with City Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (2011) and has studied music at Cal State Long Beach University. 2018 will be Arturo's fifth year serving as a Visual/Music instructor at Warren High School.
Marrand is a resident of Downey and is a graduate of Warren HS (2016) where she was in band all four years, serving as Drum Major her final year. Marrand's principal instrument is clarinet and is a very talented musician. Currently Marrand is studying at Cal State Long Beach. 2018 will be Marrand's third year serving as a Visual/Music instructor at Warren High School.
Tony Tapia begain his color gaurd career at Riverside Poly High School. Since then Tony has been activily performing in all sorts of color guards including RCC's Fantasia winter guard, the Academy Drum and Bugle Corps and currently with the Boston Crusaders. Tony began instructing at Warren HS in December of 2017.
Jackson Lai joined the Warren HS saff in the Fall of 2016. His primary resonsbility is instructing the front ensemble but to also work with all percussionists in the pursuit to become better musicians. Jackson earned his Bachelors in Music Education from Cal State Long Beach University and has held percussion coaching positions at schools such as Ayala, Baldwin Park, Mission Viejo and more. As a performer Jackson was a member of the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets.
Allen Makishima is a music educator and marching percussion specialist living in Southern California. For over 15 years, he has worked with numerous successful programs such as Warren High School (2015 SCPA Broze Medalist, 2014 SCSBOA Bronze Medialist and 2017 SCSBOA Gold Medlist), and Laguna Hills High School (multiple time WBA and SCPA Finalist). Allen earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from CSU Long Beach in 2013. As a performer, Allen was a member of the Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps 1999-2000 and the Black Knights Indpenednt Indoor Drum Line 2002.
